Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop - This game seems to be the only new Nintendo Wii release this week.  This is an action game in which you play Frank West, who is a journalist in search of the scoop of a lifetime.  The scoop relates to a town being over run by zombies.  It sounds like a lot of action takes place with the journalist fighting off enemies (zombies, I assume) in a shopping mall.  Restoring health works by you having Frank go to a restaurant or cafe in the mall and having a meal.  It sounds like this was originally released as an Xbox 360 game and this might be a good Wii version.

Battle Rage - This is a third person shooter robot fighting game.  It sounds kind of interesting, although I am not much into fighting or shooter games.  It has an arcade mode with a different storyline for each character.  Thus if you end upliking it it sounds like it has at least some depth to it and replay value.

Sing It: High School Musical 3  - This release is coming in a version with the mic and a version without the mic for $10 cheaper if you already own a Wii microphone peripheral.  This game features songs from all three High School Musical movies.  It has all 10 songs from the third movie and select ones from the other two.  It has a total of 25 songs and music videos. It includes the character Kelsi as a vocal coach and several multiplayer modes.  The game comes with a free child’s ticket to the upcoming Hannah Montana movie.

Deadly Creatures  - This is a third person action thriller game.  It is set in the desert.  You play as a scorpion or a tarantula and fight against other deadly creatures of the desert including Gila monsters, lizards, and black widows.  It looks like the graphics might be pretty amazing for this game.

NASCAR Kart Racing - I love kart racing games and even though I am totally not into NASCAR (I do not dislike it, but I do not follow it either) this game is on my list to try out.  It looks like it might turn out to be a decent kart racing game, although to be honest it is not like there is anything good in this genre for the Wii besides the awesome Mario Kart (at least not that I have tried).  Unfortunately, it sounds like this one has no online gameplay capability.

OneChanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers  - This is a sword fighting action adventure game.
House of the Dead: OVERKILL - This is a zombie shooter game.

Ultimate Shooting Collection - This is a collection of 3 shooting games.  The games in this one disc compilation are Chaos Field, Radio Allergy, and Karous.

Tenchu Shadow Assassin - This is an action game related to being a ninja.  It includes 17 historically accurate ninja weapons.  In the game you use the Wii remote to fight like a real ninja in a fuedal Japan setting.  I am normally not into these types of games, but this one piques my interest in that it is at least trying to have a historical tie in and seems to be at least a little more historically accurate than some other games based on historical periods.  Note: if you reserve at Gamestop you get a Tenchu Shadow Assassins Bandana.

Wii Shop Releases January 26, 2009

Today one new WiiWare title and one new Virtual Console title were released on the Wii Shop Channel.

Niki Rock ‘n’ Roll - This WiiWare title costs 500 points.  This is a classic game style game with a new twist.  The main goal is just to defeat the enemies and get through the levels, but it appears there is an emphasis on timing (i.e. doing the right actions at the right time).

Wonder Boy in Monster Land - This virtual console game was originally released as a Master System game.  It costs 500 points.  The object of the game is to bring peace back to Monster Land by defeating monsters and ultimately the evil dragon.

Coraline - This is an action adventure game based on the upcoming theater release of a movie with the same name.  It also includes mini games.  Sound like it could potentially be a good game, but it is always hard to tell with movie themed games.

Thursday, January 29, 2009

Rygar: The Battle of Argus - This is also an action adventure game.  This is a remake of the Playstation 2 so-called classic.  It is not exactly the same game and is supposed to be a good Wii capable version, but that is the game makers saying that, so that does not mean much to me.  It does sound like it at least has good potential.

Imagine: Fashion Party - This is a fashion designer game.  It sounds like it uses the Wii Remote and Nunchuck interestingly including using it as scissors, a hairbrush, and make up applicator.  It also includes using them to control the character as you show off the fashions on a runway.  There is even a Fashion Reality Show.

Ultimate Shooting Collection - This is a collection of 3 shooting games.  The games in this one disc compilation are Chaos Field, Radio Allergy, and Karous.

SimAnimals  - This is a simulation game in which you interact with a variety of animals including feeding bears and playing with over 30 animals from the Northern Hemisphere.

Paws and Claws Pet Resort - This is a simulation game in which you care for kittens, horses, dogs, and more.

Fishing Master World Tour - This is a sequel to Fishing Master in which you fish throughout Japan. In this version you get to fish around the world at over 40 locations in 7 regions. Even more interesting us that this one has online capability that includes a WiFi ladder.  I really enjoyed the first one and plan to try this one out as soon as I can. It sounds like there are some good locations including Hawaii and Eadter Island.
